Getting the best photos on the day

Newborn Prep Guide

Thank you for choosing me to capture you and your loved ones. It is a privilege to be able to spend time with you and document the true essence of your family. As you can probably tell from my portfolio, I like to take true honest pictures that show exactly who you all are right now.

Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your session with me.

Location

My newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your own home. I will select the rooms that have the best light (normally the living room and master bedroom). I know what it's like to have a newborn, please don't feel like you need to clean your house, I can move anything to the side to clear the shot.

Time

I find newborn sessions work best mid morning, around 10am. Please feed your baby as much as possible prior to my arrival. My sessions are baby led, I don't do any major posing, and have no expectations on how the baby should behave (awake or asleep). The session is very relaxed. If possible I will try and get some images of your baby in just their nappy, so please make sure your house is nice and warm.

Session length

I will normally be with you for around an hour. There is no rush, I don't clock watch. If your baby wants to feed then we will take a break. I will go with your babies flow.

What should you wear?

I would recommend neutral colours, but the main thing is to be comfortable and wear something that you can feel relaxed in.

Mum and Dad

I am a Mum of three, so I know how overwhelming these newborn days are. I want to make this experience as relaxed and stress free as possible. My job is not to make this time in your life look perfect, my job is to show you exactly how beautiful it is.

Siblings

I will aim to get pictures of the siblings shortly after I arrive so that I can capture them before they lose interest. I will always make a fuss of the siblings, as I know how insecure they maybe feeling with the arrival of their new baby brother or sister. Again I have no expectations of how they should behave, and will get what I can at their pace.

Amending the date

I allow amendments up to three weeks before your booked date, making changes is of course subject to availability. The longer we have to amend the dates the better.
